I am a ceramic artist and potter who also spins, felts and dyes luxury fibres and yarns. My studio is in the middle of a cherry orchard surrounded by mountains in Creston, BC.
My pottery career began by accident while studying painting in the Visual Arts Program at Red Deer College, once I got my hands into the clay, I couldn’t get them out. Sculpture is my passion and I like to evoke the feeling that there is a story it is trying to tell, whether real or imagined. I have realized that life is short and my work has to have some form of humour in it to make me want to keep making and exploring.
I love layering different techniques to give depth to the surface along with patterns and colours. I combine my own glazes and slips as well as commercial ones to achieve the look I desire. I am drawn to making whimsical, colourful things full of patterns, textures and flowers.
I search out the high quality and unique fibres I need for the texture and lustre I require for my hand spun yarns and felted projects. Quality workmanship, attention to detail and a sense of humour are at the core of all my work.
